The Daily Online Number Sense Tests are back! These tests written for high school practice are based on current trends in UIL Number Sense. Monday features a repeat test from last year, Tuesday's test is written at the "easy" level to encourage novice Number Sensers and to allow veterans to stretch their mental math muscles and finish more of the test. Wednesday and Thursday's tests are written at the UIL level while Friday's test is the Challenge test, a fun and exciting test that still practices Number Sense basics while presenting more difficult material that you might see on the TMSCA tests.
This year, I'll be featuring problems that occur
toward the middle and end of the test. I call this Problem 61. I'll work up the trick and post it
online with a few practice problems. Then, for the rest of the week, Problem 61 will be of that
type to give students maximum practice.
Both the tests and the Problem 61 material can be found in the Daily Online Tests sections. If you do not have a subscription to this service, it's not too late to order. The cost is $120 and you get access to all of this year's tests (including Sets A and B, a total of 20 tests already online), the Trick Center, the Drill Master, and any of the Problem 61 materials written for this year.

Fun and Games with Number Sense
Want to spice up your Number Sense practice a bit? The following is a fun activity appropriate for Number Sensers in grades 4 through 12. The Number Find gives students typical Number Sense problems to work mentally and then circle the answers in the grid. When all the answers are found, each row contains a 1- or 2-digit number. These numbers then form a special pattern. You can then challenge your students to find the pattern. Enjoy!
